Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Year 3. This year in the Spring term our topic will be 'Extreme Earth'.

If you have to self-isolate at any point, you will be able to contact the school office to request a work pack from your teacher. This is only if you are feeling well, not if you are poorly. If you have any queries about any of the work, please do email us on our class email addresses. Please find the Year 3 parents powerpoint below:

Reading and Spelling

We encourage all of our children to read regularly and to write this in their reading record book. Reading records will be collected by teachers weekly and checked. Each child is expected to have written at least 5 comments a week. We would love to see comments from parents too. We have provided a bookmark in their Reading Records with some ideas to help guide children and parents on what to write and questions parents can ask to check their child is understanding what they are reading.

Each week children have a times tables test. We will all start on our 2x table. Once you have learnt this, you will be moved to the next times table until you know them all. When you have learnt a few times tables, you will have to pass a test with these tables mixed together before you can move on.

We are not setting weekly spelling lists anymore. Instead, children will come home with a sheet with the spelling pattern on that they have learnt in school that week. They might like to practise this spelling pattern in a variety of words at home. They will have a half-termly test on the spelling patterns they have learnt.

PE

Each class will receive two PE lessons a week. One will be indoors (dance, gymnastics and problem solving) and one outside (ball games, racquet and striking activities and athletics).

All children are expected to have the correct PE kit for the activities they are doing. This includes appropriate PE kit for the weather conditions. KS2 children are being asked to attend school in their PE kit on the days on which they will have PE sessions. Both Dolphins and Orcas will be outside on a Monday with Dolphins inside PE on a Thursday and Orcas inside PE on a Tuesday.

A list of the appropriate PE kit can be obtained from the School office and on our website.

Please remember that children cannot take part in PE with earrings. We suggest that on PE days all earrings are removed prior to coming to school unless children can remove them on their own; if they are unable to remove earrings themselves, they will not be able to take part fully in PE. We also ask that fingernails are no longer than the tip of the finger, for safety reasons.

If you need to contact school urgently, you should send an email to the main office at office@bassingbourn.cambs.sch.uk. You may also contact your class teachers on the email accounts below, but teachers may only check these accounts once a day.

Parent Helpers

If you would like to help us out in school, whether that is by coming in regularly to hear readers, or offering your help for one off events and activities, please do let us know. We are now able to welcome parent helpers back into school once they have had a school DBS check and attended the short parent induction session.
