Handwriting

We use the Read Write Inc. Handwriting Programme to develop children’s handwriting fluency. Teaching begins in Reception, where children are taught to hold pencils correctly and comfortably and to form letters accurately. Letter formation is introduced using mnemonics and visual cues closely linked to phonics sessions.

Once children can consistently form letters correctly, they are taught to develop a flowing style by practising how letters join together. This prepares children for joining letters securely and confidently.

As handwriting skills progress, children focus on developing speed, fluency and legibility,
