French
At Bassingbourn, we want pupils to develop a love of languages and an appreciation of different cultures. Through learning French, pupils build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing while developing an understanding of how language works.
Our French curriculum is taught using the Kapow Primary scheme of work and is fully aligned with the National Curriculum for Languages at Key Stage 2. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time, enabling pupils to communicate with increasing confidence and accuracy.
The curriculum is organised around six key areas:
- Phonics
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Language Comprehension (Listening and Reading)
- Language Production (Speaking and Writing)
- Cultural Awareness
These areas are revisited and developed throughout Key Stage 2, helping pupils to make connections in their learning and build fluency over time.
